The Science & Nature Weight Loss Program TM
The Obesity Epidemic
We eat in response to hunger signals generated in our brain. If you or someone you know is trying to lose weight, it is vitally important for you to understand that there are only three factors that can generate a hunger signal:
1) Your body needs energy - pure "raw calories".
2) You need a specific micronutrient, such as a vitamin or mineral. It might even be just one of about 100 essential nutrients
3) You experience an emotional trigger for "comfort food", which is usually a conditioned stress response. A classic example reported by many people is, whenever they are under stress, they are attracted to their favorite food from childhood. The important thing to note is that all three of these factors are regulated by your body's autonomic nervous system - your subconscious mind - and are outside your conscious control! Yet, most diet or weight loss programs specifically ignore this fact and want you to use brute force willpower -- through counting calories, exercise, or other means -- to overcome your body's subconscious control mechanisms. Eventual failure is virtually guaranteed. Your Three Types of Fat
One of the classic mistakes made by virtually every weight loss program on the market is that it treats all fat in your body the same. This is a huge mistake! Just as there are different types of nutritional fats we can eat, each of which has different effects on our bodies, once there are also different types of fats stored in our body, each with different functions. The type of fat you have will determine how easy it is for you to lose it, even whether or not you can lose it, and how long it will stay off or how fast you gain it back when your "diet program" is complete. We actually have three different types of fat in our bodies. Normal Fat Reserves: These fat deposits exist mainly as a layer of fat under our skin and above the muscles. It provides a reserve of energy for short-term interruptions in the food supply, and also as insulation for helping keep warm. Structural Fats are the second type of fat deposits, which are a connective tissue that serves primarily as a shock absorber. Examples are the deposits under our our heels or around our kidneys. Long Term Fat deposits, also called Brown Fat. This fat differs in its chemical structure from normal fat. Once the body is signaled to create long term fat deposits through a complex system of hormones and neurotransmitters, they only are released during long-term extreme starvation, or during pregnancy.
We are all familiar with individual differences in appearance or physical traits such as height, hair and eye color, and so on. Much less obvious, but just as important however, are the internal differences in body chemistry. We each have a different metabolic rate, different abilities to digest foods, different concentrations of enzymes, and so on. These individual differences, coupled with environmental factors such as stress, can have a big impact on how you gain weight. Your individual body chemistry must be taken into account in order for you to lose weight. Before prescribing any diet or weight loss program, we first need to test you to see what foods are compatible with your body's chemistry and immune system. In the Science and Nature Weight Loss Program TM you will be tested for food allergies, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal balance and basic metabolic function prior to beginning the actual program, to ensure any underlying deficiencies or imbalances are corrected, and you have no underlying illness which would prevent you from participating in the program. Stress, Hormones and Survival Adaptations Stress causes the production of a hormone called cortisol. This interacts with your body to increase your blood sugar, and is an important survival adaptation when you really are in a life-threatening situation. During day-to-day living, however, it causes increased insulin production and results in your body being more prone to storing fat, another long-term survival adaptation. If this stress response pattern becomes more frequent, you are more likely to store this fat as Long Term Brown Fat. Thyroid and Adrenal Glands You have two glands in your body responsible for regulating your energy usage, the Adrenal and your Thyroid. The Thyroid is responsible for your baseline metabolic rate, how much energy you use on a regular basis. The Adrenal is responsible for your temporary energy consumption above your baseline -- in other words, your "Fight or Flight" stress respons. Long term, frequent stress can cause your body to lower your metabolism. This is also a survival adaptation, and produces a phenomenon called Functional Hypothyroidism. Your body behaves as if it is hypothyroid, even though your thyroid is fine. Long term stress can also burn out your Adrenal glands and reduce your ability to respond to stress. Food Allergies Another aspect of your individual body chemistry are foods you may be allergic to. Sometimes these might be due to genetics -- certain populations from the middle east, for example, are much more likely to be able to tolerate modern wheat for example -- other times may be related to the quality of the food, and sometimes the responses are very unique to the individual. Finding out what foods, if any, you are allergic to is a pre-requisite for loosing weight. Many times food allergy elimination is the last key needed in order for some patients to finally lose weight. In almost every case, however, if you don't eliminate the allergic foods from your diet, losing weight will be difficult or impossible. Body Temperature
Our physical bodies run on chemical reactions. Each of the thousands of reactions occurring in every cell every minute gives of excess energy in the form of waste heat, which we measure as our body temperature. Our organs are adapted to function at an optimal temperature of 98.6 deg. Farenheit, and not deviate from that by more than a few tenths of a degree. The enzymes in our cells which regulate our metabolic reactions are three- dimensional protein structures produced by our DNA. These enzymes operate most efficiently at our normal body temperature. If your body temperature is too low, nothing in your metabolism will be operating efficiently, including your ability to lose weight. The next piece of the weight loss program involves your food itself. An estimated 90-95% of diet and weight loss books on the market fail to account for the quality of the food you eat. Rather than any particular mix of proteins, carbohydrates or starches being the "magic bullet", it is the Quality of these ingredients which are most important for health. Helping you eliminate low quality, processed junk food and replacing with high quality natural foods is another aspect of this program. Your Hypothalamic "Set Point"
The Automonic Nervous System in your brain includes a region called your Hypothalamus. This part of the brain has numerous functions associated with your body's internal regulation. One of those functions is what has been described as a "set point" for your body's weight. Just like the set point of the thermostat in your home controls the temperature, your Hypothalamic Set Point regulates how much fat you need to store in order to survive. Long periods of high stress combined with fulctuating food intake -- much like the average American who lives a fast-paced lifestyle and diets frequently -- will cause your hypothalamus to tell your body to store fat. This is because the neurotransmitters and hormones associated with stress, combined with deprivation of calories, mimics the pattern our bodies would see during times of famine. Resetting the Hypothalamus
Changing your hypothalamic set point is accomplished using a technique known as the Simeons hCG Protocol. This protocol takes advantage of a hormone called Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, or hCG. This hormone is a survival adaptation to allow women to carry pregnancies to full term during times of famine, by releasing stores of Brown Fat as calories for the mother and child to survive on when the mother isn't able to find food. The core of the program uses daily injections of the hormone hCG, which acts on the brain to signal the release of long term fat stores. This takes advantage of the function of hCG in the body to very specifically allow you to lose your long term brown fat that will never be lost during diet alone. Daily injections of hCG, coupled with a low-calorie, nutrient-dense diet, permit you to lose weight permanently. More importantly, using this hormone also reprograms your body's "set point" so that you don't regain the weight when each block of treatment is over. Daily injections are administered in "blocks" of treatment, which can vary in duration from 23 days up to 40 days. Individual treatment blocks are separated by several weeks without injections, during which you follow a nutrient dense diet where the quantity of food you each is not limited. The number of treatment blocks will depend on how much weight you want to lose. After the injection period you enter a period of three weeks where you eat an unlimited amount of calories, but absolutely no starch. This three week no-starch period is crucial in order for the hypothalamic set point change to become permanent. This program is effective for both men and women. Even though men don't normally generate hCG, it acts on the brain in men to liberate fat the same way it does in women. In fact, men tend to lose a little more weight than women during each block of treatment, about 15-20% more on average. Actual Patient Results
The bottom line is, this program works. Below are actual photos of one of our patients, take before and after his first round of hCG therapy. See for yourself.
This program is a customized, individual approach for helping YOU to lose weight. It includes the office visits, lab tests, detailed food recommendations, nutritional supplements, herbal medicines and the hCG hormone for your first block of treatment.
