Christi Mendoza is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist as well as a Certified Massage Therapist. She uses a holistic approach in her treatments combining the usage of Acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Tui-na - a Chinese manual therapy, Holistic Nutrition , and lifestyle changes. Her areas of specialty include geriatrics, gastrointestinal disorders, acupuncture orthopaedics, and internal medicine. She has a commitment to holistic medicine and is always learning new approaches and techniques to provide the best care for her patients.

Christi has been a practitioner at South Bay Total Health since June, 2008. The most current example of Christi’s commitment to learning new approaches to alternative health care is her mentorship under Dr. Arlan Cage, founder of South Bay Total Health. Through her time mentoring under Dr. Cage she developed her ability to practice as a Holistic Nutritionist and has adopted his ideology on the treatment of endocrine, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal disorders. She is a firm believer in the practice of using cutting edge holistic lab testing in combination with traditional treatments. She remains a student of Dr. Cage and continues to learn from him clinically.

From a young age Christi had an affinity for herbology and began self teaching herself at the age of 15 through reading books and treating herself and family members with basic herbal remedies. During her time in the graduate program at the prestigious Emperors College of Traditional Oriental Medicine she excelled in the arts of herbology and formula writing. During her studies she had the opportunity to study under many great teachers, one of her mentors is Tiande Yang an “Earth School Secret Keeper” who was selected by the Chinese government as a child to hold the pure tradition of the Earth School. The Earth School is a practice of TCM that emphasizes the importance of treating the digestive system in order to overcome pathology. Christi is a subscriber to the earth school philosophy which makes her an ideal practitioner in the treatment of gastro-intestinal disorders. She also studied herbs and formula writing for internal medicine under Ji Zhang who is an esteemed faculty member of the prestigious Nanjing University of Traditional Oriental Medicine in China, one of the four top Chinese medical schools in the country. Nanjing University and affiliated hospitals have the reputation of being the most traditionally based in China. Christi had the opportunity to travel with her teacher, Ji Zhang, to China and study at the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This strengthened her philosophy of remaining deeply rooted practice of the classical style of Chinese Medicine.

Christi is not only an herbalist and internal medicine practitioner but she is also well trained in the practice of physical medicine. She practices a variety of medically based manual therapies geared at alleviating and managing chronic and acute pain, post surgical rehabilitation, and sports medicine. She received massage training at the prestigious Institute of Psycho-Structural Balancing in Culver City, CA, in 2006. She has received additional instruction specifically in Oriental Medical Massage as part of her education in the graduate program at Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, where she received her formal acupuncture training. She furthered her training in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University where she studied under a regionally and internationally famous Tui-na doctor, Dr. Wang. Christi also practices a rare and effective form of massage trigger point therapy called Barefoot Deep Tissue Massage developed for athletes by internationally famous massage therapist John Harris, co author of Fix Pain and massage therapist for the 1984 Olympics. Christi learned this deep technique directly from its creator, John Harris. She often uses the effective combination of acupuncture and manual therapy when treating musculo-skeletal disorders.

Best results are often found through customization of her various skill sets based on the individual needs of each patient. Contact Christi today for alternative solutions to all your health care needs.
